Book Report by Josue Hernandez, Feb.2012 Title: Through the Medicine Cabinet Series: The Zack files Author: Dan Greenburg, 1996 Setting: The story happens in Zack’s and Zeke’s apartment building, in New York and Newer York. Main Characters: Zeke, Zack, Don (Zeke’s dad), Dan (Zack’s dad) Summary: Zack is going to the New York Yankees training camp with his dad. Looking for his retainer in the medicine cabinet, he sees a boy who looks just like him. Zack falls in the cabinet to the other side which is a parallel universe!!! It is called Newer York and it opens every 30 years. Today is the day and it closes at 8:00 am. The other boy’s name is Zeke and his dad is Don. Don asks Zack to pick up the dry cleaning and Zack gets lost in Newer York. Finally he comes back to the apartment and the four of them (Zack, Zeke, Don and Dan) meet just before the closing of the portholes. The boys realize that the two dads have met before, 30 years ago in the dryer at the Laundromat! They shake hands and laugh. The boys go back to their own side and Zeke gives back Zack’s retainer. My opinion: I really liked this book because it is funny, it has surprises, ( like when we see that the two dads know each other), it was fun to think of a parallel universe. I would recommend this book to people who like funny books. It is a series and there are about 10 other titles. I learned new words like manhole, parallel, retainer.
